Bienvenue mon coeur.

Bienvenue mon coeur cardigan for a newborn, knitted top-down in one piece, maybe bigger sizes in the future.

po polsku jest druga czesc postu ponizej.

I am getting ready for my babies (twins) spring/summer soon!
I have knitted with polish cotton Anilux Gloria
Gauge: 25 stitches and 34 rows = 4 inch
Needle size
US 4 - 3.5 mm
Yardage
295 - 306 yards (270 - 280 m), less then 1 skein
Sizes available atm
newborn

Please read all before knitting.
cable pattern front1 of 6sts
Row1: p1, C4F, p1
Row2: k1, p4, k1
Row3: p1, k4, p1
Row4: k1, p4, k1
cable pattern front2
Row1: p1, C4B, p1
Row2: k1, p4, k1
Row3: p1, k4, p1
Row4: k1, p4, k1
C4F= 2sts in front on cable needle (cn), k2, and k2 from cn
C4B= 2sts on the back on cn, k2 and k2 from cn
lace pattern (the same for front 1 and front2) of 3sts
it is going to be between 2 cables pattern so I am not adding extra p1!
Row1: k1, yo, ssk
Row2: p3
Row3: k2tog, yo, k1
Row4: p3
ssk= slip, slip, knit. Slip 1 st as if to knit, then second st the same, put them back on your left needle and then knit 2 together.
inc M= 4 markers where I do increases every second row, I add 1 st before IncM, and 1 st after IncM by knitting kfab which means knit front and back

pm= pattern markers (if you need, I don't, use different colour then IncM), only two, and at the beginning only one cable pattern and lace is knitted, in round9 i started one more cable pattern (so lace one will be in the middle) because i had enough sts to do it.
I cast on 54 sts, purl the first 4 rounds only, and then i add 4 sts at the beginning of work and in the end, those 5 sts i always purl! and I make there only 3 button holes, u can add more and how often you like.
About sleeves: I don't suggest how to finish off them, I don't do any decreases, some of you like to knit on dpn's or knit in the round on circ., seameed or seamless, or by picking up some sts from underarms. Up tou you.

Row1: 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25,
Row2: 2, 6, 10, 14, 18, 21, 26,
Row3: 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27,
Row4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28,
In round: 1, 13, 25 = button holes
In round 13 =start to repeat cable pattern so the lace one will be in the middle, look on the photo;
Row 1 and Row 3: always inc by kfab (check note about IncMarkers)

cast on 54 sts

set up with IncM: 10 (front1)- 7(sleeve)- 20 (back) - 7 (sleeve) - 10 (front2)
Purl first 4 rounds only, and then add 4 sts at the beginning of work and in the end, those 5 first and last sts you will always purl! and I've made there only 3 button holes, u can add more and how often you like.

Row1: p5, p1, cable pattern front1, p1, lace pattern, kfab, slipIncM, kfab, (knit to 1st before IncM, kfab, slip IncM, kfab)*repeat 3 times and when you are in Front2 after IncM, kfab, lace pattern, p1, cable pattern front2, p1, p5

Row2: purl all sts except the one in blue colour, you knit them always in Row2 and Row4.

After a few increases you will get enough sts to start after lace pattern second cable pattern, in round 9 so becareful., you will do (after lace pattern): p1, cable pattern, p1.... when you have more sts just knit them until IncM.

As you can see i have knitted 28 rounds so 14 increases in total, then I have separated sleeves and body. The body I have knitted for 36 rounds, and always followed the pattern on both fronts.

Sleeve finishing: i did 34rounds and BO. Happy Knitting!*

Moje sweterki lecą do Szkocji - taki teraz mały świat. Pozdrawiam gorąco Beata

    1. I see where it says 'maybe bigger sizes in the future'

With twins? LOL The best advice is: when the babies sleep, YOU sleep. There is nothing that has to be done that can't be done when you are all awake.

Your rest is of the utmost importance right after birth. That is what my pediatrician told me - and he and his wife had 7 children! (my daughter is now 50)
